On a trip to Siena last year we found a small church formerly owned by the Order of the Temple. Siena was an important city during the Middle Ages, since it was situated close to the trade routes between the West and the East.
The church was given over to the Hospitallers when the Templars were suppressed, and it still carries their insignia. We were to leave the same day, so it was impossible to get more information about its use today. We did, however, find some Templar symbolism in the walls’ masonry. We had to make do with a normal lens and no extra light. Therefore the photos are not as good as they could have been. Anyway, for those of you going to Siena, there is something here to occupy you for an hour or two.
(By the way: the church above is not the Templars’. But it is situated in Siena, and it is beautiful!)
